Become a Qualified ISA Surf/SUP Instructor

If you would like to become a qualified Surf and Stand-Up Paddle Board (SUP) Instructor, then please read on.

Over the weekend of Saturday 5th, Sunday 6th and Monday 7th of April 2014 the Glide Surf School and Cedar House Surf Shop will be hosting the International Surfing Association (ISA) presenter Andy Joyce who will be delivering a level 1 Surf and SUP bolt-on coaching course in Cromer.

The ISA qualifications are recognised worldwide and once qualified, you will be able to coach surfing and SUP at any surf school in the world.

Course Detail

ISA Level One Surf Instructor

This course is aimed at individuals with surfing experience who wish to teach basic surfing techniques to the novice.

The International Surfing Association Level 1 Surf Instructor works with the novice surfer in white water teaching basic surfing skills including introduction to equipment, beach safety, paddling catching waves, popping up, riding white water and traversing white water. These skills are learned on soft boards in white water conditions on beach breaks. Course Information Sheet

ISA Stand Up Paddleboard Specialist Module

The aim of this module is to assist accredited Surf Coaches with the competencies to effectively teach the beginner skills required for Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP).

After completing the requirements set out in this module your Surf Coaching Accreditation will be endorsed for either enclosed flat water SUP and/or SUP Surf by ISA. Course Information Sheet

Fees

The overall cost for the 3 day course is £350.00. To secure the course dates and candidate numbers with the ISA applicants must pay a£100 deposit by Friday the 28th of February 2014.

Pre-Requisites

To work as a Surf / SUP instructor at any recognised surf school you will require a relevant Surf Life Saving (SLS) qualification. The North Norfolk Surf Life Saving Club are currently running a SLS qualification from the 7-12th April 2014 in Cromer and the 14-19th of April 2014 in Great Yarmouth.

If sign up for the SLS course in Cromer, you will be exempt from attending the first day of the SLS training in order to allow you complete your ISA Surf/SUP training.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

The ISA can transfer other existing Level One Surf coaching qualification to a ISA Surf/SUP qualification. You will need to prove your previous coaching experience and fill out a RPL form.  The fee is £115.  More information on RPL
