Surf Lessons

  • Lessons at all Levels

    Individual and group lessons are available, with all the equipment provided. We tailor our surf instruction to your ability so whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced surfer you will be able to improve in all our lessons.

    During a beginner lesson you will cover the basics of surfing, paddling the board, catching the waves, standing up on the board, wave selection, turning techniques, basic surf etiquette, ocean awareness, surf safety and any future advice to help you with your life as a surfer. Flat water training is also available with the use of 'Indo balance boards'.

    Our priority is getting you up riding the waves, having fun as quickly and safely as possible.

    One to one coaching is also available to help you progess from riding just the white water and fine tune your surfing on the open face of the wave. This can include reading the waves, paddling, positioning and timing when catching the wave and any other advice to help you progress and improve.

    We also offer lessons to larger community groups like schools activity days/weeks, youth groups, team building events for business.

    Please note, the minimum age for surf lessons is 8 years old. Maximum group size is 12 individuals.
  • Prices

    Prices are as shown in the table below.  A 10% discount is offered if you make a booking filling all 10 surfing places for a lesson.  

    A reduced rate is available to larger community groups like schools, youth groups, team building events.

    A 10% discount card is available for lessons and equipment hire.  Payment can be made by either cash or cheque.  Cheques must be presented in person with a cheque guarantee card and made payable to ‘B J Kewell’.
  • What happens if there is no surf?

    If conditions are not suitable for surfing then there are various options available, including:

    • The lesson can be postponed to an alternative date;
    • If the conditions allow go stand up paddle boarding;
    • Have a flat water lesson with the standing phase conducted using 'índo balance boards'
     
    If you coming to Cromer from quite a distance, we recommend that you call us the morning of your lesson to check conditions and thus avoid any disappointment.

    Do I need to be able to swim?

    Yes, you need to be able to swim 25 metres.

    Are towels provided?

    No, you need to bring your own beach towel. 

    Do I need my own wetsuit or surfboard?

    No, all equipment is provided at no extra charge.
  • Safety on the Beach

    We take safety very seriously. This is because we believe, quite simply, that safety comes first. The sea, whilst enabling us to have a huge amount of fun, must be respected because conditions can change very quickly. Our policy reflects the respect we have for the ocean.
    • We are fully insured and covered by an extensive public liability insurance that includes injury & damage to third parties.
    • Instruction is from a qualified key stage 3 and 4 school secondary teacher who is BSA qualified & Beach Lifeguard qualified, including first aid.
    • We carry out risk assessments on all areas of our surfing courses on the beach we use.
    • The surf area is patrolled continuously by RNLI lifeguards from 10:00 to 18:00.
